What is Peace?

Peace Begins Within is a British/Portuguese clothing brand built on the belief that what we wear should reflect how we choose to live. We make five essential objects: a jean, a white T-shirt, a handmade loafer, a deerskin coat and a silver bangle. Produced in small batches by hand in Portugal, made to order, built to last.
What is the Peace Philosophy?

The Peace philosophy begins one layer beneath considered intentional living. Most brands ask you to buy less and choose better. Peace is interest in what creates the person who wants to. The moment you stop looking outside yourself for permission. When that happens, what you wear becomes a reflection of what you’ve already decided, not a performance for everyone else. The clothing is just proof.

Every Peace item object/item carries four consistent markers, the pebble, the shuttle-woven Italian label, the tonal ‘P’ embroidery adn the authentication hologram. This is evidence of hte Peace philosophy and evidence of the people, place and ideas behind the work.

What is the Peace Uniform?

The Peace Uniform is a collection of five timeless essentials designed to be worn every day. THe 90s Taper Jean cut from 13oz Candiani denim grown in Spain and woven in Italy, made in Portugal; a heavyweight organic cotton O-neck T-shirt; a handmade leather loafer by Martiape in Felgueiras; a deerskin car coat by Jopel using La Biessuno leather; and a .925 sterling silver bangle handcrafted by Alcino Silversmith in Porto. Each piece is made to order in small batches. Each is designed to be worn, repaired and kept.

Peace is more than clothing. It is a philosophy of intentional living. The garments are simply the physical expression of that belief: proof that what we value can be reflected in what we choose to wear. The clothing is simply proof that this has happened. It is what the philosophy looks like when you make it physical.

Portugal's textile and footwear manufacturing heritage is among the finest in Europe. Peace works with Candiani denim processed in Portugal, Martiape footwear in Felgueiras, Alcino Silversmith in Porto and Jopel for leather outerwear construction, SJ Texteis for jersey, Orfama for knitwear. These are not anonymous factories. They are family-run workshops with decades, in some cases generations of expertise. The same makers supply Hermès, Valentino, Prada, Maison Margiela, Loewe and Simone Rocha. Peace chose Portugal not for cost but for craft. And because staying close to the people making the clothes makes everything better.

What is Made To Order?

Made to Order (MTO) means Peace produces in response to demand rather than creating unnecessary excess. Better for business, better for the planet, better for everyone. This approach allows us to focus on quality, reduce waste and ensure every garment is made with purpose rather than speculation. There will be times when we have some items left over which is the nature of production as we explain in the Journal. But our goal is always to make only what we need.

Who founded Peace?

Peace was founded by James Shaw and Simon Jobson, with backgrounds in product creation, brand building and creative culture. Peace is their shared response to watching the fashion industry move further from the object itself toward content and performance.

Peace is a British-Portuguese brand, founded in Portugal and produced exclusively in Portugal.
The Peace Uniform ranges from €100 for the ‘O’ Neck T shirt to €3’500 for the deerskin car coat. The core denim jeans are €275, and leather loafer starts at €325. The .925 sterling silver bangle starts at €600. All pieces are made to order in small batches in Portugal
The Peace Zine is a quarterly 44-page printed publication produced in house by Peace. It contains photography, founder essays, maker profiles, interviews, product information and the brands philosophy. It is sent to everyone who follows Peace before the first release.

The name reflects our belief that a meaningful life is built from internal conviction rather than external validation. What we wear, own and value becomes a reflection of choices already made. Peace begins within. The clothing is just proof.
